A Sad Day

I found out today that one of the great environmentalists of our day died. Steve "The Crocodile Hunter" Irwin died Monday after being stung by a stingray while filming a documentary on The Oceans Deadliest Creatures. I have been a huge fan of his since the very beginning. It was almost as if I knew him personally. I always kinda thought that one of these days we would all read about him being killed by one of his beloved crocs, and felt that there was really no other way that this charismatic and enthusiastic person would leave this world. My heart goes out to his wife and 2 young children. I have read alot of posts on his death and some of them have the nerve to say that he deserved what he got for taking the risks that he took. This attitude infuriates me. He died trying to inform and teach the world about these beautiful creatures that most of us would never have the opportunity to see if not for people like him. Saying that he deserved what he got is like saying that a police officer or a soldier killed in the line of duty deserved what they got because they knew the risks of their job. Would people dare say such a thing to the widow of a police officer, fireman, or soldier? I pray that his wife and children are spared from hearing or reading such unfair and disparaging remarks.

People can be so cruel. I think your comparison to police and fire fighters is an excellent one. I don't know why some are so quick to make heartless judgements after a tragedy...
