Artwork

Ok, so here's the deal. I ran a bookfair this past week. Every time I have one, it costs me LOADS of money, as I am a book fanatic. As usual, each of the kids picked a few, and then, when there was a lull in the crowds, and I had time to wander, my "tab" grew. I came across a "How to draw Horses" kit. It came with a small instruction book, and 5 pencils of different levels of lead, an eraser and a small sketch pad. I have about 5 of these type books, but I always seem to be unable to resist getting another. I had to get up extra early this morning because Yori is in a county wide concert, they had practice today, and had to be at the school by 7am. When I got back from dropping him off, the house was so nice and quiet, I decided to try to sketch alittle. I haven't drawn anything in years, (no time, to lazy, whatever the reason.) When Connor got up, she decided to try her hand at it also. I am most comfortable drawing horses, they are my favorite subject after all. Connor tried, but was very frustrated and upset because they weren't "perfect". (What drawing is?) Barry suggested she start out with inanimate objects, to get a "feel" for it and get the basics down. Here are what we both came up with. Hope you like them!
PS. The dog is Megan, I found it extremely hard to switch from horses to dogs. Jess do you have a hard time making the switch to other animals?

Hey Bets! Wonderful artwork. I'm always so glad to see an update on your blog, and this was an extra-special treat! Great job on the horse sketches - I think the bottom one is my favorite. The tack looks great and the way you shaded gives the impression of that wonderful horse "shine." Love the Meggie pic too. When I looked at it, I had to smile because the expression just captures that Meggie sweetness. Yes, I definitely have a harder time leaving my horse comfort zone to draw other animals - or worse - PEOPLE! Yikes.
Connor, I wanted to tell you how much I love your drawings! Bottles can be very difficult to draw because it is hard to get the sides even. You did a great job! I think my two favorite parts are the bottle cap and the palm trees on the malibu bottle. Well done! If you want a fun project, try putting some objects together in a group and drawing them. It can be fun to choose things that don't normally go together - like a coffee cup and a dog toy or something! It is a great way to learn, and fun too.
Lots of love to you both.

Thanks Jess. It means alot to both of us to get your opinion, being that you are the most talented artist I know.
Aww, thank you! :)
